The Pregnancy Help Centre of Durham is here to demonstrate God's love and mercy to anyone who may be distressed due to pregnancy. We are open for drop-in and help three days per week, staffed by our trained volunteers. We provide help and support including infant supplies, pregnancy testing, counselling, prayer and care in a safe environment. Kathy Michel is the Executive Director of the PHC. She oversees the sites, staff, and volunteers at two Durham locations: Oshawa and Ajax.
For a brief update, we are in desperate need of food, formula and diapers as we have seen the number of families accessing our services almost double over the past year. We are having a hard time keeping up with the demand. Just last Wednesday, we had a mother of two calling in to schedule an abortion because her husband was demanding it. He is frightened and does not know how they will be able to support another child. We are praying she comes to see us as she had a tearful chat with one of our volunteers. It is not what she wants. We are hearing more and more stories of mothers, with children, feeling hopeless about the future. The number of refugees we are helping has certainly exponentially increased and we don’t turn people away. We give as much help as we can.
